Maternal Early Warning System Quality Improvement Project Interprofessional Collaboration Presentation

Story

In the Interprofessional Collaboration Presentation, I showcased my ability to communicate successfully with interdisciplinary healthcare experts to improve pregnant patient outcomes. I developed this project by adding current data, organizing complex clinical material into a professional presentation, and articulating quality improvement ideas effectively in both written content and speaker notes. I used Kotter’s Eight-Step Change Model to provide the implementation process and discussed the significance of communication between nurses, physicians, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and hospital leadership.

This experience enhanced my skills in communicating evidence-based recommendations and integrating perspectives from different healthcare disciplines and enhanced the importance of effective patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration for better patient safety. As a Labor and Delivery nurse, I work with clinicians, patients, and families in fast-paced clinical settings. This project has increased my confidence in professionally articulating clinical information and advocating for evidence-based practices to improve maternal outcomes.

Story

Quality improvement of maternal early warning system This project helped me to enhance my critical thinking skills as I had to review current research, determine gaps in maternal care and give evidence-based recommendations for improving patient outcomes. I critically reviewed the literature, not taking present clinical practice for granted but wondering how standardized tests would improve early recognition of maternal decline.

For the implementation strategy, I had to anticipate impediments, assess organizational readiness, and determine measurable outcomes of success. The use of Kotter’s Change Theory also helped me to grasp the role of methodical planning in supporting the implementation of evidence-based interventions. This assignment has helped me improve my clinical reasoning since it has highlighted the need to assess facts before making healthcare decisions. These critical thinking abilities are directly applicable to my daily work in labor and delivery, where quick observation of subtle maternal and fetal changes is vital to prevent problems.

Story

The Ethical Decision-Making assignment increased my knowledge of how ethical concepts guide professional nursing practice. During the project, I examined ethical challenges based on concepts of autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, fairness, and fidelity, and the spiritual and cultural beliefs of patients and families. The assignment required me to think beyond clinical interventions and address the emotional, spiritual, and ethical ramifications of nursing care.

Being a labor and delivery nurse has given me the opportunity to work with families in moments of joy, uncertainty, sadness, and difficult healthcare decisions. This experience has reinforced my belief in the importance of compassionate communication, patient advocacy, and perspective-taking that may not be my own. It has fueled my desire to provide holistic care that encompasses the physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural needs of each person receiving care.

Work artifact: Nigeria Infant Mortality Survey Storyline. Through the Nigeria Infant Mortality Project, I learned about global health and social determinant disparities that impact the health of mothers and infants. In this assignment, I talked about evidence-based therapies used to reduce infant mortality. These interventions include skilled birth attendance, vaccines, promotion of breastfeeding, and increased access to healthcare. I also researched how infant mortality might be prevented through addressing poverty, poor healthcare infrastructure, and lack of maternal education.

This project has deepened my knowledge of the nurse’s part in health equity through education, advocacy, and community collaborations. While I am now practicing in the United States, the initiative brought into sharper focus my understanding of cultural variety and reaffirmed that quality nursing care does not cease at national borders. Story

I learned via the Family Systems Assessment that healing happens through meaningful interactions with patients and their families. I evaluated the family dynamics, caregiver burden, communication patterns, and accessible support systems throughout the assignment, knowing that the health status of one family member affects the whole family unit. I learned that family-centered nursing is not just about dealing with illness but also considers the emotional, social, cultural, and environmental factors that influence health.

As a labor & delivery nurse, I know the value of developing trusting relationships with moms and their husbands and support persons during labor. This experience confirmed my knowledge of how compassionate care and courteous communication create healing environments where patients feel safe, supported, and empowered to participate in their care.

The Story of the Maternal Early Warning System initiative demonstrated how evidence-based practice can improve patient safety and reduce unnecessary complications and healthcare costs. Recommendations for standardized maternal examinations to assist early detection of clinical worsening have resulted from this effort. Timely intervention to prevent serious maternal problems can reduce intensive care admissions and length of stay in the hospital and enhance the efficiency of overall health care.

Completion of this project emphasized the fact that quality improvement is an ongoing duty for every nurse. I’m a labor and delivery nurse, and I know that providing safe and effective care means constantly revisiting clinical procedures to improve outcomes for mothers and babies.

Story

The Interprofessional Collaboration Presentation was about the importance of working together to provide safe, patient-centered care. While preparing the presentation, I had to emphasize the importance of the roles of different healthcare providers and how working together leads to better maternal outcomes. I understood that good healthcare means good communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making among nurses, physicians, pharmacists, therapists, and hospital leadership.

This project helped to highlight that collaboration is not only within the healthcare team but also with patients and families as active partners in care. In my day-to-day practice as a nurse, teamwork is needed to coordinate labor management, respond to emergencies, teach families, and provide continuity of care throughout the delivery experience.

Having access to current healthcare data allowed me to identify vulnerable populations, analyze trends, and make evidence-based recommendations for nursing practice.

This project has exposed the need for healthcare technology and trusted databases to be incorporated into clinical decision-making. As a practicing nurse, I use electronic health records, clinical decision support tools, and healthcare databases to improve patient safety and provide evidence-based care.

Story

The reflection on the Benedictine values made me think about how the Benedictine values of community, hospitality, respect for others, prayer, service, and moderation affect the professional practice of nursing. Reflecting on these characteristics made me realize that caring for patients is not only about professional competence but about humility, honesty, respect, and being a servant leader. I also related these ideas to the ANA Code of Ethics and evidence-based nursing standards.

As a labor and delivery nurse, I seek to exemplify these principles by treating all patients with dignity, advocating for vulnerable groups, and forming meaningful relationships with patients, families, and coworkers.
